Ange Postecoglou has done a better job than anybody could have imagined when he arrived as the manager of Celtic, after an attempt to appoint Eddie Howe failed. The fans were not too excited about the prospect at the time and understandably so, as he was not a big name in European football despite achieving considerable success in both Japan and Australia. A year on, things could not be more different.

Postecoglou is one of the most popular Celtic managers in a long, long time, as he has guided a team that had finished 25 points behind the Rangers and trophyless last season to a Premiership and Scottish League Cup double.

On top of that, he has built a connection with the fans that not many managers are able to in modern football.

Naturally, there have been calls from the fans for Postecoglou to be given a long-term deal, as it is believed that he is on a 12-month rolling contract at the moment. The manager himself does not seem to be bothered about his situation though. As reported by The Scotsman, he told Sportsday Radio:

"“I have never worried about my contract length or security. I kind of work as if I will be there forever, knowing that I won’t be.“I am really happy at the football club. I have had an amazing year, amazing support, and it’s everything I have ever wanted in a football club. It’s a massive club, it’s geared for success.“I am a driven guy in terms of success. We have Champions League football next season. They are the kind of things that are important to me. Contracts and all those other factors that people are more interested in just don’t enter my thinking.“I am very happy where I am and as long the club want me to stay, I will be sticking around.”"

That is absolutely brilliant from Postecoglou once again and just goes on to show why he is loved by the fans to the extent that he is. It is not just about the success that he has brought to the pitch.

While Postecoglou might not be looking for a new long-term contract, the club should still give it to him. Firstly, he deserves it after the job that he has done. And secondly, if he continues at this rate, it won’t be long before foreign clubs come calling for his services.

Fortunately, some recent rumours have suggested that the club are indeed considering handing Postecoglou a three-year deal. It remains to be seen if that indeed turns out to be the case.
