Celtic will need to strengthen in a few positions in the summer transfer window. One of those is definitely left-back, which has been viewed as a weakness for the club for a long time now. Kieran Tierney left for Arsenal in the summer of 2019 in a Scottish record £25 million move and since then, the Hoops have not managed to find someone to replace him.

Many have tried and all have failed. Greg Taylor has improved quite a bit recently though and has definitely become an option that the club can rely upon. But at the same time, more competition is needed in the position.

As a result, Celtic continue to be linked with left-backs this summer. Two of the recent names are both playing their football in the Swedish top flight, in the form of Hammarby’s Mohanad Jeahze and AIK’s Erick Otieno. And now, a player currently in Belgium is also rumoured to be on the Hoops’ radar.

As reported by Wales Online, Celtic are believed to be keeping tabs on Union SG’s Matthew Sorinola. Norwich City, Swansea City and Anderlecht have also been linked with the English left-back. Some rumours have even suggested Rangers as a possible destination.

Sorinola was a standout performer during his time at MK Dons, the club from where Celtic signed Matt O’Riley. The left-back has not been particularly impressive since his move to Belgian side Union SG though.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Sorinola has made 16 appearances for the club but featured for just 298 minutes in total.

That is not nearly enough for a player who is 21 years of age and at a vital stage of his career. That has not put off clubs from looking to sign him though it looks like if Celtic do decide to make a move, they will have plenty of competition for Sorinola’s signature.
