Kieran Tierney makes huge claim about Celtic left-back

Celtic have never quite been able to replace Kieran Tierney, since he left in the summer of 2019 to join Arsenal in a Scottish record £25 million transfer move. The Hoops have tried different players to fill in the Scotland international’s void but nobody has been to do it. As a result, the Hoops are expected to go after another left-back this summer.

Boli Bolingoli, who was signed in the same summer transfer window that Tierney left, has never been able to establish himself at Celtic and is expected to leave this summer. Also, with Liam Scales struggling to make much of an impact, the Hoops do need another option at left-back.

Another player who arrived at Parkhead during that 2019 summer transfer window was Greg Taylor and while he has had his fair share of struggles and critics during his time at Celtic, one has to admit that he enjoyed a promising campaign under the management of Ange Postecoglou.

Tierney himself appears to rate Taylor highly as well and was not shy to point out that the Celtic left-back has qualities that he does not. As reported by The Scottish Sun, the Arsenal star said:

"“Greg has got qualities I don’t have. I know people compare him with me at Celtic. But no player should be compared with another. It’s unfair. Everyone’s got different qualities. His consistency for Celtic has been unbelievable.”"

Now, it is safe to say that Taylor does not have the same impact on the Celtic team that Tierney did. But over the years, he has developed into quite a solid left-back who does have a role to play at Parkhead.

That does not mean that the Hoops should not go after another left-back this summer though. Competition can only be good for Taylor to push himself to be even better. The club have been linked with Hammarby’s Mohanad Jeahze and AIK’s Erick Otieno recently.

Coming to Tierney, he was enjoying a great season with Arsenal before suffering an injury and having to undergo knee surgery. Incidentally, the Gunners’ form dipped immediately after that and the Scottish international could only watch from the sidelines as Mikel Arteta’s side missed out on a Champions League qualification spot and could only finish fifth in the Premier League.
