It was just last summer that Celtic were in need of a major summer rebuild, after finishing 25 points behind the Rangers in the Premiership and without a single piece of silverware. They did undergo that squad overhaul and it was a pretty successful one as well, as the Hoops won the Scottish League Cup and Premiership in the 2021/22 season, securing a spot in the upcoming Champions League group stage as well.

Right now, Everton find themselves in a similar situation as well, as they are coming off of a terrible season and need a squad overhaul of their own this summer. The Toffees ended up barely avoiding relegation and Frank Lampard deserves credit for the job that he has done there.

It might be time for them to take the next step though and hopefully not be involved in a relegation battle next time around. In that quest, they could potentially hand Celtic a cash boost.

As reported by The Athletic, Kristoffer Ajer is a player admired by Everton although the transfer fee it would take to sign him from Brentford could potentially turn out to be a problem. Also, as reported by CeltsAreHere, Celtic did manage to negotiate a sell-on clause when the Norwegian departed Parkhead last summer.

Celtic could be handed major cash boost by Lampard’s Everton

Ajer left Celtic last summer to join Brentford. Before that, he had established himself as a key player for the Hoops. An initial £13.5 million transfer fee was involved although it could rise up to £17.5 million with add-ons.

Ajer has had an interesting debut season with Brentford to say the least. He started out strong but then, in the middle of the campaign, the Norwegian would lose his place in the starting XI, only for him to win it back later on and finish things strong.

This has managed to catch the eye of Everton. Now, it remains to be seen if they do end up making a move for the Norwegian or not. If a transfer does happen, it could bring in a significant cash boost for Celtic.
