Celtic will be expected to strengthen their squad in the summer transfer window, with the Scottish Premiership title to defend next season as well as Champions League group stage football to navigate through. And one position that Ange Postecoglou might be looking to add to is left-back, which has been viewed as an area of weakness for years now.

Kieran Tierney left Celtic in the summer of 2019 to join Arsenal in a Scottish record £25 million transfer. Since then, the club had tried to fill his void by deploying different players at left-back but nobody has been able to do it.

Greg Taylor did a commendable job in the 2021/22 season and has shown a lot of improvement in recent times. But still, Celtic could do with a bit more competition in the position, especially with Boli Bolingoli expected to leave this summer and Liam Scales struggling to really put up a challenge for a starting spot.

As reported by Fotboll Direkt (via 67 Hail Hail), Celtic are interested in AIK defender Erick Otieno as a potential option for left-back. There’s no information about there being any contact between the two clubs regarding the player though.

Celtic are believed to be interested in AIK defender for left-back position

Otieno currently plays for AIK in the Swedish top flight and has represented the Kenyan national team on several occasions as well.

Celtic have already been heavily linked with a player, currently plying his trade in Sweden, in the form of Hammarby’s Mohanad Jeahze. Thus, it looks like a league that the Hoops have their eyes on at the moment.

Otieno might have plenty of experience at the international level, but he does not have any at the European level. Thus, if Celtic do end up making a move for him, it would be a very interesting one, considering they have Champions League group stage football to deal with next season.
