Celtic’s defence has improved a lot this season. It had been viewed as a major weakness last time around but following the permanent arrivals of Carl Starfelt and Josip Juranovic, and the loan signing of Cameron Carter-Vickers from Tottenham Hotspur, things have certainly looked much better for the Hoops at the back. There could still be some need for tweaking there in the summer though.

Christopher Jullien could very well be on his way out of the club after struggling to get minutes under the management of Ange Postecoglou. He made his return from long-term injury earlier this season, after not making a single appearance for Celtic in over a year. He has only been on the pitch once for the senior team since then though.

On the other hand, Stephen Welsh does not look ready to be a regular starter yet. Thus, it would not be a surprise if the Hoops looked to bring in another defender this summer.

Kenyan international and KAA Gent star, Joseph Okumu’s agent has confirmed that there has been informal interest from Celtic in the defender. As reported by People Daily (via Football Scotland), he said:

"“We have had informal interest from English side Arsenal and Scottish giants Celtic, but German side Borussia Dortmund is the first side to make an official inquiry about the central defender who is open to a move if a proper agreement is reached.”"

Judging by the clubs apparently interested in Okumu, he seems like quite the defender and as a result, if Celtic were able to sign him, it would be considered as a major coup on their part.

They are yet to make an official inquiry about the player though and as a result, it will be interesting to see if they move forward for Okumu.

He has established himself as a first-team regular for Belgian side KAA Gent. At 6′ 4″ he is quite the physical presence at the back and at 25 years of age, is about to enter his prime years as a footballer.
