Celtic no longer need a squad rebuild like they did last summer but there are still a few positions in this team that could do with some strengthening. One of them is left-back. It has been an area of weakness for the Hoops ever since Kieran Tierney departed in a Scottish record £25 million transfer move to Arsenal in the summer of 2019.

Since then, the club have tried to fill in the void with a number of players but nobody has quite been able to make the left-back spot their own on a long-term basis. Greg Taylor has shown a lot of improvement recently, but it does feel like Ange Postecoglou will want to have another option there next season.

They have been heavily linked with Hammarby’s Mohanad Jeahze in recent weeks. But now, they have been told to keep an eye out for a young Manchester City left-back as well.

The player in question is Josh Wilson-Esbrand, who is a 19-year-old left-back, who has made just one appearance for the Manchester City senior team till now but has impressed at the youth level. Celtic have been tipped to sign him on loan. A report from the Express read:

"Left-back is set to be a high priority for Celtic this summer, and Wilson-Esbrand could be the perfect candidate to step in."

Should Celtic sign the Manchester City left-back on loan in the summer?

It would be a bit of a gamble on the part of Celtic, if they end up signing Wilson-Esbrand on loan from Manchester City, hoping that he will be a first-team starter for the Hoops next season.

Of course, something similar has happened very recently, when they signed Jeremie Frimpong on a permanent basis from Manchester City as a teenager and he was soon playing regular first-team football for Celtic. Since then, he has left the club to join Bayer Leverkusen in a big move and established himself as one of the most exciting young talents in the Bundesliga as well.

Celtic and Manchester City have enjoyed a great relationship over the years in the transfer market and now, there is the Mark Lawwell connection as well.

If the club are looking for a player who can come straight into the starting XI, Jeahze would be the better option but they cannot completely overlook someone with the talents of Wilson-Esbrand either.
