Both Celtic and the Rangers are expected to be looking to strengthen their squads in the upcoming summer transfer window. On one hand, the Hoops have the Scottish Premiership title to defend as well as a place in the Champions League group stage booked. On the other hand, their Ibrox rivals must be looking to win back the title next season and make their way into Europe’s elite competition through qualifiers.

It is not rare for both sides to compete for the same players in the transfer market and this time around, it looks like they once again have their eyes on the same player.

As reported by TEAMtalk, Celtic and Rangers are both interested in Derby County captain, Tom Lawrence. But there is heavy interest in the Welsh international as he is also wanted by the likes of Southampton, Leeds United, Bournemouth and Fulham as well as Watford, West Brom and Nottingham Forest.

Lawrence has been a standout player in Derby County’s team, even captaining them, but with the Rams relegated this season and his current deal running out in the summer, he is expected to head out of the club.

Celtic and Rangers look set to battle for Championship captain

It remains to be seen how things play out but it must be said that someone like Lawrence could be a solid signing for Celtic.

At 28 years of age, he is in the middle of his prime as a footballer and has been putting up good numbers even in a Derby County side that has struggled for a while now. On top of that, Celtic do need another winger.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Lawrence scored 11 goals and provided 5 assists in 39 appearances across all competitions this season.

With his current deal running out, it is not hard to see why there is so much interest in his signature and it will not be easy for Celtic to come out on top of the race.
