It will be very interesting to see Celtic’s approach to the upcoming summer transfer window. The squad is much more settled than the last time around, when they needed a major rebuild after having finished trophyless and lost players like Scott Brown, Odsonne Edouard, Kristoffer Ajer, Ryan Christie and several others. Yet, there is no doubt about the fact that there is a lot of room for improvement.

Most Celtic fans must have been pretty content with how the domestic season went for the club. But in Europe, the Hoops were quite disappointing.

They were knocked out early from the UEFA Champions League qualifiers, then failed to make it past the group stage in the Europa League and then got knocked out in the very first Europa Conference League tie as well, at the hands of Bodo/Glimt.

Combine that with the fact that the Rangers were able to make the final of the Europa League, albeit not winning it, and Celtic must be even hungrier to succeed in Europe next season. And it looks like they will be targeting four positions to strengthen in the summer, assuming that Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota join on a permanent basis, which is looking likely at the moment. Kieran Devlin tweeted out:

"Looks like CB, LB, RW, and CM are priority targets assuming Jota and CCV sign permanently, and another CB and winger if they don’t. That strengthens the squad but to specifically improve in Europe, personally think one or two other areas could be targeted."

Celtic will be targeting four positions this summer assuming Jota and Carter-Vickers join

It looks like centre-back, left-back, right wing and central midfield are the four positions that the club see as their priority targets, if Jota and Carter-Vickers do indeed join on a permanent basis.

All of those targets make a lot of sense as well. Christopher Jullien is expected to leave at centre-back. On the other hand, Boli Bolingoli is expected to leave as well, combined with the fact that left-back has been viewed as a weakness for a while.

Neither James Forrest nor Mikey Johnston have impressed in recent times while Nir Bitton has departed, leaving a gap there.

As a result, if Celtic do manage to strengthen in all those positions over the summer, it should be viewed as a major improvement on their current squad.
