‘I cried’ – Nir Bitton makes emotional Celtic admission

Nir Bitton might not have always been a regular starter for Celtic, but he was an important member of the squad throughout his time at the club. Even under the management of Ange Postecoglou, he was a valuable option to bring off the bench to see out games and performed impressively as a starter in the middle of the season, when the Hoops were struggling with a number of injuries.

Bitton decided to bring the curtain down on his time at Celtic though, and will be leaving this summer, after spending almost a decade at Parkhead.

It is believed that the club wanted to hand him a new contract but Bitton was after a new challenge after having won everything that there was to win at Parkhead, and as a result, was looking for a change in scenery.

It was a sad moment to see him say his final goodbyes to the Celtic support, in the final game of the 2021/22 season, against Motherwell. Bitton seemed visibly emotional as well and has now admitted that he cried during the game. As reported by Sport 1, the Israeli international said:

"“In the last game, which was also a coronation game I sat on the bench before the players came up there was an exciting atmosphere. And when the Celtic crowd sang you’ll never walk alone with the scarves in the air I cried and I could not control it. I owe a lot to Celtic for the trust and everything they have given me in my career and life.”"

Having arrived at Celtic in 2013 as a 21-year-old, Bitton has spent the majority of his playing career at Parkhead.

Thus, it is not hard to understand why he would be emotional leaving the club and he made no secret of it either.

While it was sad to see him play for the last time for Celtic, it was also great to realise that he was leaving as a champion of Scotland, as the Hoops celebrated their Premiership title triumph. And he could not have asked for a better way to leave the club. He can certainly be proud of the career he had in Glasgow.

We can only wish Bitton the best of luck for the future and hope that he does well wherever he ends up playing moving forward.
