The Jota to Celtic permanent transfer rumours are starting to pick up pace now as it looks like the Portuguese winger might be destined to join the Hoops on a long-term basis in the near future. It is believed that he might not be in the first-team plans of Benfica and now sees Parkhead as the right place for him to develop further, despite there being interest from the Premier League as well.

Some questions had been raised about Jota’s performances in the second half of the season but he answered the critics with his incredible displays in the post-split fixtures.

Jota is clearly one of the most important players in Ange Postecoglou’s side and fans have been calling for him to be signed on a permanent basis since the turn of the year, with Celtic believed to have an option to buy of a transfer fee around €7.5 included in the loan deal.

But it looks like negotiations have moved slowly, even though conversations have been open between the two parties for some time now because of one particular reason. Football Scotland reported:

"Football Scotland understands the player and his representatives have been in conversation with Celtic about a full-time move for some time but negotiations were slower simply to allow both parties to concentrate on winning the Scottish Premiership."

Celtic look set to sign Jota on a permanent basis if something unexpected doesn’t happen

Now that the target of winning the Premiership has been achieved and the season is over for Celtic, the club can move their eyes towards the summer transfer window.

The club are headed towards an even bigger season. They have the Scottish crown to defend once again, while they will be making their return to the Champions League group stage after many years. It will be brilliant to hear the anthem playing at Parkhead once again and the atmosphere is expected to be electric.

Thus, signing Jota is even more important now and unless something unexpected happens, it looks like Celtic will be able to get a deal over the line.
