Celtic star has already returned to training after title win

It has already been more than a week since the incredible celebrations at Celtic Park as Ange Postecoglou’s side lifted the Premiership title. It was a brilliant achievement from the players and the manager, getting back to the top of Scottish football the season after finishing 25 points behind the Rangers and trophyless.

It was a long and hard season to say the least, with Celtic competing deep into all three domestic competitions, UEFA Champions League qualifying, Europa League group stage and the UEFA Europa Conference League as well.

Thus, some of the players will now be getting some well deserved rest and hopefully will come back refreshed for the upcoming campaign. That won’t be the case for those who are involved in their national team squads though.

Even though there is no big international tournament this summer, with the World Cup set to be played later on in the year in Qatar, national teams will be playing quite a few games. Thus, the season is not quite over for many Celtic stars, with Giorgos Giakoumakis even back in training already.

Celtic star returns to training just days after Premiership title win

As reported by gazzetta, the Greece national team’s preparations for their upcoming Nations League matches started on Monday with the presence of eight players. One of those who participated was Giakoumakis.

Giakoumakis had an eventful season for Celtic to say the least. Having topped the Eredivisie scoring charts last season, he arrived amidst high expectations but struggled to remain fit in the first half of the season.

Most Celtic fans must have written him off as a transfer mistake but Giakoumakis completely turned things around in the second half of the season. Many would argue that he was the club’s best player after the turn of the year and ultimately, ended up topping the Premiership scoring charts as well.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Giakoumakis scored 17 goals in 29 appearances for Celtic across all competitions. He only played 1471 minutes of football in total though, meaning that he averaged a goal every 86 and a half minutes!
