Tom Rogic’s brilliant Celtic career came to an end in the final league game of the season, as the Australian international star said his final goodbyes to the Parkhead faithful amidst their title celebrations. While it was sad to see him leave, after spending more than nine years at the club, it is also good to see that he could leave on such a high note.

Rogic is believed to be after a new challenge and that is understandable as he had achieved almost everything that there was to achieve at Celtic. At 29 years of age, this might have been one of this last chances to get a big move somewhere and try a different experience.

The Australian connection at Celtic remains strong even after Rogic’s departure though, through manager Ange Postecoglou, who has already become a club hero by guiding them to a Scottish League Cup and Premiership double.

Talking about bringing Australian players to Celtic, as reported by 67 Hail Hail, Postecoglou said on Rowey’s Sports Show:

"“I’m always looking and if the next Tommy Rogic comes along then yes. This football club has a tradition of having Aussies through here from Mark Viduka, Scott McDonald, Jackson Irvine. So there’s always been an Aussie connection. I’ll try and make that continue.”"

During Postecoglou’s time as the manager of Celtic, a lot of the concentration has been on bringing players in from Japan. He had been managing there, at Yokohama F. Marinos, before arriving at Parkhead. And it is safe to say that it has worked out quite well for the Hoops.

Kyogo has been a super hit, Daizen Maeda is also a regular starter, Reo Hatate faded away after a terrific start but has tremendous potential and it will be interesting to see what Yosuke Ideguchi does next season.

On the other hand, the club did try to bring in Australian international Riley McGree in January but he ended up joining Middlesbrough instead.

It is great to hear though that Postecoglou has his eyes on potential Australian signings for Celtic as well. If they can come anywhere close to finding the next Rogic, they will have a brilliant player on their hands.
