Celtic have made several interesting signings in recent times. One of them was the decision to sign Matt O’Riley from League One side, MK Dons, in January. While he had been a standout there, many had questioned whether he would be able to make the transition to the Scottish Premiership. He has done so quite impressively and already made an impact in Ange Postecoglou’s first-team.

With Tom Rogic leaving the club in the summer, it is very possible that he could be a regular starter for Celtic from next season. Thus, the signing can be considered a major success for the club. And now, it looks like they have their eyes on another player from a League One side.

The player in question here is Shrewsbury Town youngster, Ben Crompton. While he has never made a first-team appearance for the League One club, he has trained with the senior team and is believed to be very highly-rated in the youth ranks.

As reported by Shropshire Star, Crompton is believed to have been offered a short-term deal by Shrewsbury Town but has opted to look for more secure offers elsewhere and will depart the club. He is attracting interest from Celtic, who have tracked his progress.

Shrewsbury Town youngster is believed to be on Celtic’s radar

Crompton is a highly versatile player. While he arrived at Shrewsbury Town as a midfielder, he has mostly operated as a centre-back while representing their youth sides.

It will be very interesting to see if Celtic do indeed end up making a move for the 18-year-old. While he has impressed at the youth level for Shrewsbury Town and is believed to be a great prospect, it is worth pointing out that he never made his debut for the League One club, who finished 18th this season.

Thus, if Celtic did end up signing Crompton, it is more likely that he would head to the B team rather than feature for the first-team from the get go.
