Celtic loan star will be joining on 4-year permanent deal

Celtic have enjoyed quite the rollercoaster ride of a season which reached a happy ending away at Tannadice Park in midweek, as the Hoops sealed the Premiership title with a 1-1 draw against Dundee United. They still have one game to go in this campaign, a home one against Motherwell, and one can rest assured that there will be a party atmosphere at Parkhead this weekend.

After that, the focus will have to turn towards the upcoming season though as the work behind the scenes never stops.

With the Rangers reaching the Europa League final this season, Celtic must be extra keen to do well in Europe next season themselves, especially as they will be returning to the Champions League group stage after a long absence. Thus, it will be important to build up a squad that can compete at that level.

A lot of the focus has been on the club’s loan stars and whether they will stay on. While the futures of Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers still seem to be up in the air, Daizen Maeda will be joining on a long-term basis. Ange Postecoglou shed some light on the situation of the Japanese star, who had joined on loan from Yokohama F. Marinos in January but was always believed to have an obligation to buy included in the deal.

Postecoglou confirms Maeda’s future at Celtic

As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Postecoglou said on Celtic’s official YouTube channel during a media conference:

"“Daizen will absolutely be here. It was more of a technicality. He was always going to be with us long-term. There was no issue around that. It was just the way the deal was structured with Yokohama.“He’s signed for four years, so he’ll be here for the future.”"

Maeda has become a key member of Celtic’s first-team since arriving in January. While he has not thrived in all aspects of his game, the energy, intensity and dedication that he brings up front is undeniable.

Thus, Maeda staying on is brilliant news for Celtic and hopefully, the club can agree long-term deals with Jota and Carter-Vickers as well.
