As Celtic fans continue their celebrations after clinching the Premiership title for the tenth time in 11 years, the hard work behind the scenes continues. We’ve already seen Ange Postecoglou talk about the need to get new signings in early on in the summer transfer window. And with a spot in the Champions League now booked, it is necessary that the Hoops build a squad that can compete at that level.

Recently, rumours had suggested that Celtic were closing in on a move for Hammarby left-back, Mohanad Jeahze. He has been one of the standout defenders in Allsvenskan, the Swedish top flight, in recent times and with the transfer fee believed to be around £2 million, it had the potential to be a masterstroke.

But now, it looks like a move is not as far advanced as was thought and as a result, there are now major doubts over whether it will even happen.

As reported by Fotboll Direkt (via 67 Hail Hail), Hammarby director of football, Jesper Jansson, has claimed that the club have not heard from Celtic:

"“No, that’s not true. We have not heard anything from Celtic.”"

Jeahze deal in doubt after Jansson claims club have not heard from Celtic

It is still very early and the season is not even over. Thus, it is quite possible that Celtic just might not have contacted Hammarby yet but have plans to do so. The rumours were too widespread and coming from a variety of well reputed sources for there to be nothing in them. Thus, there is no need for panic.

Celtic have been linked with the left-back in the past as well and appear to have had the Iraq international in their sights for some time now.

One thing that this does suggest though is that a deal for Jeahze, even if it ends up happening, is not going to be as quick as many would have expected or hoped.

Jeahze does have the potential to be a great prospect for the Hoops. And if Celtic are able to bring him to Parkhead, it has the potential to be a major coup on their part. One has to remember that left-back has been viewed as an area of weakness for the club in recent years.
