Ange Postecoglou certainly has not taken the easy route to the top and while he might be a point away from getting Celtic back to the top of Scottish football, he certainly was not backed to do that. When the manager arrived, even many of the club’s fans were disappointed, as the Hoops had been linked with the much more highly-rated Eddie Howe for months before that failed to transpire.

Even though Postecoglou had enjoyed success in both Japan and Australia, at the club level and on the international stage, many wondered whether he was good enough to get it done in Europe.

He has definitely shown that he is and has become a cult figure amongst the Celtic fans by now. But while most of them might not have heard his name a year ago, Postecoglou seems to have been aware of the club and its players for a while.

When asked on Twitter about who his favourite players to watch were while growing up, Postecoglou named Kenny Dalglish and Kevin Keegan as the two whose posters he had on his wall:

By the sounds of it, it does look like Postecoglou had a particular affinity towards Liverpool, with both Dalglish and Keegan enjoying brilliant stints at the Merseyside club.

Dalglish would both play for and manage Celtic as well, and it is incredible that Postecoglou is now the manager of a club where one of his heroes growing up enjoyed such a successful time at. Talk about life coming full circle.

It is safe to say though that Postecoglou is building up quite a fanbase for himself as well and it would not be much of a surprise if today’s young Celtic supporters grow up with posters of him on their walls.
