Kristoffer Ajer makes brilliant admission about Celtic

Kristoffer Ajer was one of the several key players who departed Celtic last summer. The Norwegian ended up joining Brentford in the Premier League and he has had an up and down time there through the course of the season. On the other hand, the Hoops have done a pretty good job of replacing him in the squad as they close in on an unlikely double.

Many fans believed that it would be very difficult to replace Ajer and understandably so. He was one of the few Celtic players who had given a good account of themselves last season. And the general belief was that he was the best defender that the club had in their ranks.

Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt have arrived this season though and done a fantastic job of not only filling the void left behind by Ajer but improving the defence overall.

That is not to discount what Ajer achieved during his time at Celtic though and there is no question that he was an important part of the club during their run to 9IAR and the Quadruple Treble team as well. And he definitely appears to have fond memories from his time at Parkhead.

As reported by 67 Hail Hail, while speaking to Brentford’s website, Ajer said about his time at Celtic:

"“That was an incredible time for me.“To walk out at Celtic Park in front of 60,000 people, to live in Glasgow, to win trophies with my good mates – it was a very, very nice time.“It’s absolutely like living in a goldfish bowl! It’s 24/7 football in that city. Half the city really, really like you; half the city hate you!“Winning the league at Celtic Park by beating Rangers 5-0 was my highlight. I had 25 family members in the stand that day; it was incredible!”"

Ajer had his fair share of big moments at Celtic though and many have wondered how good he could have been in Ange Postecoglou’s system, whether it be as a centre-back or as a defensive midfielder. He was definitely one of the most versatile and talented players that the Hoops had.

But he is no longer a part of the team and Celtic have moved on quite well over the course of the season, and not really felt the absence of the big Norwegian.
