Bryan Reynolds’ career at AS Roma seems to have reached its end unless there comes a major change to the club management before the summer transfer window. Touted to be one of the best emerging talents in Major League Soccer, the Italian giants loaned him in on a six-month deal with an obligation to buy in January 2021.

Last summer, after completing his permanent move to the club, Reynolds signed a contract with the Giallorossi until the summer of 2025. And, Jose Mourinho took a chance and fielded him in their Europa Conference League group stage tie against Bodo/Glimt.

In what turned out to be a nightmare for the AS Roma defence, Mourinho’s team conceded six goals in that game away in Norway. It was the 6-1 scoreline that prompted the Portuguese manager to not hold back while speaking about some of his players.

As reported by Football Italia, Mourinho told Sky Sport:

"“I never disguised the fact we were a squad with real limitations. We have 13 players who represent one team, the others are on a different level. “At least the positive thing from now on is that nobody will ask me why I always use the same players.”"

Since that game, Reynolds never played for Roma again and subsequently secured a loan move to Belgian side KV Kortrijk in the winter transfer window.

He will return to Rome this summer, but it feels very unlikely that he will be back in Mourinho’s first-team plans any time soon.

Now, Celtic could take advantage of the situation and present a suitable offer to the Giallorossi management, who are thought to be open to listening to proposals for the United States international.

Still just 20 years of age, Reynolds has plenty of upside and has already appeared for the United States national team, and was one of the most highly-rated American youngsters in a long time before his struggles at AS Roma this season.
