Celtic handed another potential boost in Cameron Carter-Vickers chase
By StevieMac
Celtic fans are all eagerly waiting on any sort of sign or news that Cameron Carter-Vickers is ready to put pen to paper on a permanent deal with the club. He is currently only on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur. There’s some positive news for the United States international though which could potentially tip the transfer race in favour of the Hoops.
Carter-Vickers signed for Celtic on loan from Tottenham Hotspur just as the transfer window was set to close last summer. It was his seventh loan spell in succession. So the jury was out on whether he would be a good signing or not.
The last minute loan deal had all the hallmarks of a club making a panic signing. Over the course of the past few months, it has proven to be anything but that.
The player has been a sensation since joining Celtic, become a firm fan favourite, immense in defence and occasional goals scored all add up to why the club must be looking to make his loan deal permanent. The problem is that he appears to be highly prized by other clubs as well and rumours indicate has several Premier League teams interested too.
Can Celtic’s Carter-Vickers chances be boosted by United States decision?
The lure of potentially playing in the Champions League for Celtic might overcome the attractions of a Premier League club to some extent.
Also, as reported by The Washington Post, United States men’s national soccer coach, Gregg Berhalter, is running a 3-week, 4-match camp in June and a 9-day, 2-match camp in September. Carter-Vickers has obviously impressed, with the manager calling him out as a player he definitely wants to look at and that he is planned to be included in the next camp in June.
With the World Cup in Qatar later in the year these are likely to be the last opportunities for players to break into the United States national squad and so it’s a great opportunity for the player as a direct result of his Celtic performances. Hopefully that’s going to help clinch a permanent deal for the Hoops this summer.
