Jota’s future at Celtic remains unresolved till now. The Portuguese winger has done a wonderful job since arriving at Parkhead on loan last summer. While he may have struggled at Benfica, and on loan at Real Valladolid, his time with the Hoops has been a completely different story. He has established himself as one of the key players in Ange Postecoglou’s side and when on top form, arguably the best in all of Scotland.

Some doubts have been raised about his form in the second half of the season but Jota has stepped up his game since the split, scoring and assisting against Ross County and then scoring against the Rangers.

Celtic are believed to have an option to buy included in the deal for Jota believed to be a transfer fee around €7.5 million. While such a figure would immediately make him one of the most the most expensive signings in the club’s history, it does feel like the Hoops have to try to make it happen.

The big decision could ultimately lie with Jota and what he wants to do, and in that regard, the Hoops appear to have been handed a timely boost. As tweeted out by Barry Anderson, the winger is happy to stay in Scotland and Benfica expect the clause in his loan deal to be activated by Celtic:

Jota happy to stay in major boost for Celtic

This is exactly what Celtic needed. Jota leaving at the end of the season would be a huge blow for the club. He has already settled in at Parkhead, shown he can get it down in Scotland and become a regular starter in Postecoglou’s team.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Jota has scored 12 goals and provided 12 assists in 37 appearances across all competitions for Celtic this season.

Him leaving would require Celtic to go out and sign another winger, and then, there would be the risk involved with whether he would be a success or not.

Of course, a deal is not over the line yet and it remains to be seen what Jota’s future at Celtic looks like. The signs seem to be very positive though when it comes to him getting a permanent move to Parkhead in the summer.
