Celtic hosted the Rangers in what was the final Glasgow Derby of the season, at Parkhead last Sunday. Going into the game, the home team had a six-point lead over their crosstown rivals. Thus, a win would virtually guarantee the Premiership title for the Hoops but a draw would be considered a very positive result as well.

It was a bright start from the Hoops. Jota’s goal from Daizen Maeda’s cross sent the home crowd into a frenzy. Premiership glory felt within touching distance. A win on Sunday could surely have put the title race to bed, with the significantly better goal difference that Celtic have. But Fashion Sakala’s strike in the second half saw the two teams sharing the points at the end of the match.

Having played 35 games, Celtic have earned 86 points, while Rangers have 80 from the same number of games. The gap of six points between the two teams is still intact, with a victory in the Hoops’ next game, against Hearts, potentially securing the title for the Parkhead faithful.

Despite being in a favourable position in the title race, Jota is reluctant to take anything for granted though. He sent a clear message that the job was not finished following the draw at the weekend. As reported by Daily Record, the Portuguese winger said:

"“The job’s not done. We keep on going. We rest and then next week we go again.“It’s game after game. We know how important the next one is, so we keep on, we don’t give up, we get together the troops and we go into battle next week.”"

Jota has been brilliant for Celtic this season. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 12 goals and provided 12 assists in 37 appearances across all competitions for the club.

The Portuguese winger has risen up to the occasion since the split as well, scoring and assisting against Ross County in the previous game before finding the back of the net against the Rangers as well.

Celtic host Hearts next weekend, before travelling away to Dundee United and then they’ll finish the season at home against Motherwell.
