Fresh rumours emerge in Portugal about Jota’s Celtic future

It is safe to say that Celtic pulled off a transfer masterstroke in the summer when they signed Jota from Benfica on a season-long loan. The Portuguese winger had been one of the most highly-rated players in the world while coming through the youth ranks and had even been linked with Real Madrid at one point of time. But he had struggled massively at the senior level.

He has found his form since arriving at Celtic though and although he has been inconsistent in the second half of the season, there is no denying that he has been a key part of the team throughout the course of the campaign.

Celtic have an option to buy included in the loan deal believed to be a transfer fee around €7.5 million and just when questions were being raised about whether the club should shell out that kind of a figure for Jota, he has returned to form, scoring and assisting against Ross County and then finding the back of the net against the Rangers.

Some fresh rumours have emerged in Portugal about his future as well. As reported by Jornal de Noticias (via The Scotsman), Celtic will exercise the purchase clause of €7.5 million and have informed Benfica of their intentions to do so.

Celtic ready to make move to sign Jota from Benfica on a permanent basis

One has to admit that that might be the right decision on the part of the club. Despite some inconsistency recently, overall, Jota has shown that he is a terrific player when on form.

He has also been an integral part of the starting XI ever since arriving in the summer and brings something very different to the table for Ange Postecoglou’s side. As a result, losing him now would be a massive blow for the club.

Of course, it will be interesting to see what Jota decides to do, with there being rumours about Premier League clubs also being interested in his signature. There have been suggestions though that he is happy at Celtic and is open to staying.
