Ange Postecoglou’s first season as Celtic manager has been quite a rollercoaster ride. When he arrived, expectations were pretty low. The club were coming off of a terrible 2020/21 campaign. On the other hand, he was an unknown in Europe, despite his considerable success in Australia and Japan. Thus, all things considered, it looked like the Hoops were headed for an underwhelming campaign.

It is safe to say that Postecoglou’s side have exceeded all expectations till now. When they won the Scottish League Cup, it was viewed as a huge achievement. But now, Celtic are closing in on the Premiership title as well and need just 4 points from the last 3 league games to seal the deal.

There are still a lot of areas were they can improve though, both on and off the pitch, and it does not feel like we have seen the best of Angeball yet. At least not on a consistent basis.

Postecoglou should be delighted by the club’s latest move though, as they have appointed Mark Lawwell as the Head of First Team Scouting and Recruitment. He was the Head of CFG Scouting and Recruitment before this, and spent the last 10 years with the City Football Group.

Celtic make major backroom appointment

Incidentally, Postecoglou worked closely with Lawwell during his time as the manager of Yokohama F. Marinos and as a result, he must be delighted with the appointment. As reported by Celtic’s official website, the manager said:

"“I was very keen for Mark to join the Club and clearly I am delighted that he has accepted this important role and that we have been able to bring him to Celtic.“Mark is someone who I worked closely with throughout my four years at Marinos, through which time we developed great trust and an excellent working relationship.”"

Lawwell had been linked with a move to Celtic for years and it is not hard to see why. And with Postecoglou now the manager of the club, the stars have certainly aligned at the moment.

This looks like a very positive move on the part of the club. Their recruitment has been pretty good since the arrival of Postecoglou as manager, and it looks like things could get even better moving forward.
