Rumours broke out yesterday that Celtic are eyeing a move for Hammarby’s Mohanad Jeahze, the 25-year-old Iraq international left-back who has been a key reason behind the Swedish club’s brilliant start to the season, as they sit atop the Allsvenskan table after the first five games, having won them all.

Left-back has been a position of need for Celtic for a long time now, since Kieran Tierney left the club in a Scottish record transfer to join Arsenal in the summer of 2019. Since then, the club have tried to fill the gap left behind with a number of players but nobody has quite been able to get the job done.

Greg Taylor has shown signs of improvement under the management of Ange Postecoglou but it looks like the club might be ready to let Boli Bolingoli leave in the summer. There are big question marks over Liam Scales as well.

Thus, it is not hard to see why Celtic might hold an interest in someone like Jeahze, who is one of the top left-backs in the Swedish league. The player himself has broken his silence as well, amidst rumours linking him with a Parkhead switch.

Jeahze breaks silence amidst Celtic transfer rumours

As reported by The Scottish Sun, when asked about the Celtic rumours, Jeahze said:

"“I can’t say much about that.“I’ve always been very clear. If I am going to leave Hammarby it will be for something better than Hammarby. I love it here in Hammarby.”"

Thus, while not saying much, it does look like Jeahze has kept the door open to a potential move to Celtic in the future if the opportunity came knocking.

With all due to respect to Hammarby, most fans around the world would consider Celtic as a step up.

Someone like Jeahze could be a brilliant fit in Postecoglou’s system. He has been a standout going forward, while his defensive numbers are pretty impressive as well. On top of everything else, it is believed that a transfer fee around £2 million could be enough to secure the Iraq international’s signature. Normally, one would expect that the Hoops will not have much of a problem shelling out that kind of a figure if they are intent on bringing the left-back to Parkhead.

Now, it remains to be seen if Celtic do indeed end up making a move for Jeahze in the summer.
