Roy Keane established himself as a legend of the game during his time at Manchester United before coming to Celtic for a short spell at the club. He would retire from the game after just half-a-season at Parkhead, although it was enough to add a Scottish Premier League and League Cup double to his glowing list of accolades.
One of the most decorated players of his generation, Keane did not find as much success as a manager though. He made a bright start at Sunderland, even guiding them to the Championship, but that would eventually fade away. And it was followed by an underwhelming spell at Ipswich Town.
Since then, the former Celtic star has had spells as an assistant manager at Nottingham Forrest, Aston Villa and the Republic of Ireland national team, but never led a side as the main man again. It has been over a decade since he was last in the managerial hot seat.
But as reported by The Times, Keane has emerged as a potential successor to Shaun Maloney as Hibernian manager. He has discussed the Easter Road job with friends.
Former Celtic star appears to be eyeing the Hibernian job
Despite not having managed a team in over a decade, there has been no lack of rumours linking Keane with clubs in recent times.
In fact, he was even believed to be a candidate for the vacant Celtic managerial post in the summer, before the club ultimately ended up appointing Ange Postecoglou, which has proven to be an inspired decision on their part. And even more recently, he was linked with a return to Sunderland but that did not materialise either.
Now, it remains to be seen if Keane is going to finally make a return to management with Hibernian. But to be honest, it feels unlikely that the Premiership club would hand the job to someone who has not managed a team since 2011, especially after the incredibly disappointing season that they have endured.
