Neil Lennon makes bizarre claim about former Celtic teammates

Neil Lennon enjoyed tremendous success at Celtic over the years, both as a player and as a manager. But his time at the club will perhaps always be defined by the Hoops’ failed attempt to win 10IAR. It was not just that though but the manner in which they collapsed in such an important campaign, ultimately finishing 25 points behind the Rangers in the title race.

Lennon would end up stepping down from his role in the middle of the season, but by then, it was pretty clear that Celtic were destined to finish behind the Rangers. John Kennedy would serve as the caretaker manager till the end of the campaign following the Northern Irishman’s departure.

As one would expect, not many people were impressed with the job that Lennon did at Celtic during his last months at the club, including some of his former teammates. The manager does seem to be unhappy with that though.

As reported by the Daily Record, Lennon said while speaking with PLZ:

"“It was painful, yeah. People turn on you very quickly.“That’s the fickle nature of football sometimes, but I didn’t see it coming in the volume it did come.”"

Lennon said about his former teammates:

"“Yes (they were team-mates critical of me). I’m far from happy. They basically stabbed me not in the back, but in the front.”"

It is safe to say that these comments are unfair on his former teammates, especially if they are working as pundits. There was no hiding from the fact that Celtic had gone off the tracks last season with 10IAR on the line and it was not something that had to be pointed out to be noticed.

Lennon is now back in management, and is currently with Cypriot First Division side, Omonia Nicosia. It will be very interesting to see if he can resurrect his career as a manager there after his reputation took a big hit during his last season with Celtic.

On the other hand, the Hoops appear to have found an excellent manager in the form of Ange Postecoglou and appear to be closing in on the Premiership title even though there is still a lot of work to be done, with five more league games to go.
