Celtic suffer unexpected Cameron Carter-Vickers transfer blow

After the disappointment of Sunday’s semi final defeat at Hampden Park, many Celtic fans are looking around for some good news. The latest surrounding Cameron Carter-Vickers isn’t what they want to hear regarding the Tottenham Hotspur loanee’s long-term future at Parkhead.

Once again, Carter-Vickers showed his strength in defence on the weekend even though the Hoops lost. He also has the knack of coming up with a deciding goal now and again, but this time a close range shot cannoned off the crossbar.

He has made himself an essential part of the Celtic defence since arriving on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer and fans would be concerned if he did not end up staying on a permanent basis.

On the short term, fans have been expressing some concern over the player as he appeared to be limping heavily towards the end of the game against the Rangers. But from a longer term perspective, we are still waiting to hear whether the player’s current loan deal will become a permanent one. That’s where the more worrying news has arose.

Carter-Vickers may be eyeing up a Premier League move over Celtic stay

Discussions on a permanent deal are rumoured to be underway between Celtic and Tottenham Hotspur. However, as reported by GIVEMESPORT, transfer insider Dean Jones said regarding Carter-Vickers’ situation:

"“In terms of Carter-Vickers, the player has not made a decision yet.“It sounds to me like he would rather be in the Premier League if possible, but he needs to see what opportunities genuinely open up.”"

That’s not encouraging news for Celtic. Carter-Vickers might have plenty of options to pick from with a number of English clubs rumoured to be showing interest in him.

The likes of Wolves, Leicester City, West Ham United, Burnley, Watford and Bournemouth are all believed to be keep an eye on the centre-back. Could that end up being the reason behind his Parkhead departure?

If Carter-Vickers stayed, he would be very much an important part of Postecoglou’s plans for next season though. And with an entry to the Champions League group stage a strong possibility if they can win the Premiership, there is hope that that could be enough to persuade him to pick a stay at Celtic.
