Another Rangers player ruled out for the season before Celtic game
Celtic are leading the title race at the moment, with a six point lead over the second placed Rangers, with five more league games left to be played post-split. Of course, it is not time to be complacent and there is still a lot of work to be done. But at the same time, Ange Postecoglou’s side must be confident of their chances as things stand. They are the team in form and have won the last couple of Glasgow Derbies as well.
On the other hand, things are not looking up for the Rangers at this point of time, both on and off the pitch.
While they might have been impressive in Europe, their run in the domestic competitions has fallen flat since the turn of the year. They will have the chance to get things back on track though, when Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side face Celtic in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup.
The Ibrox side have quite a few injury worries heading into the game against Celtic though. Alfredo Morelos has already been ruled out for the rest of the season and now, it looks like Filip Helander has joined that list as well. As reported by The Scotsman, Van Bronckhorst said:
"“Filip’s injury is not good, we won’t have him for the remainder of the season.“He’s had a history with injuries unfortunately for him and us because we are unable to pick him. I don’t know yet if he needs surgery. He has a foot injury and he has an injury as well on the other foot so all I can say now is that we are going to make sure he is ready for pre-season.”"
Another Rangers player ruled out for the season before Celtic game
Going into the Scottish Cup semi-final, more of the pressure has to be on the Rangers to deliver. On one hand, Celtic have already won the Scottish League Cup and on the other, they have got the better of their Glasgow rivals in the previous two derbies as well.
On top of that, this might very well be the Rangers’ best chance of winning a piece of silverware this season. It will take a huge turnaround for them to go ahead of Celtic in the Premiership. And the Europa League is going to be very difficult to win.
For Celtic, this is an opportunity to keep their treble hopes alive and if they are able to pull it off, it would be an incredible achievement for the club, considering that they had finished 25 points behind the Rangers last season. No matter how this season ends, this has been a successful campaign for Postecoglou’s side.
