Neil Lennon might have enjoyed a lot of success at Celtic, both as a player and a manager, but his time at the club will probably always be associated with the manner in which it ended, with the Northern Irishman stepping down in the middle of the 2020/21 season, as their quest for 10IAR went completely off the rails. It is a period of time that the fans can only hope to forget.

After spending some time out of the game, Lennon is now back in management, with Cypriot First Division side Omonia Nicosia. Not where most people would have expected him to end up at, but let’s see if he can bring his managerial career back on track.

There were quiet a few rumours about him losing the support of the dressing room during his last season as Celtic manager.

One man who will be able to give a better look into things than most is Leigh Griffiths, whose time at Celtic finally came to an end earlier this season. He was not believed to have enjoyed a good relationship with Lennon during the 2020/21 campaign. And now, he has revealed how the manager has not returned a good luck message that he sent when the Omonia Nicosia move happened. As reported by the Daily Record, the striker said:

"“I sent him a text when he got his new job. I said I was delighted to see him back in football and hoped it was going to be successful for him.“I’m still waiting on a text back. That’s on Lenny’s part, I have no bad words to say about any manager I played under and that stands for Lenny. It’s not my thing, football is a short career and you never know what’s around the corner.”"

Lennon has not returned the former Celtic star’s text

It is safe to say that neither Lennon nor Griffiths got the end to their Celtic careers that they would have hoped for.

Under Lennon’s management, the club blew their chance to create history and win a tenth straight Scottish league title. On the other hand, Griffiths was allowed to leave the club in the middle of the campaign, even though he had been handed an extension in the summer.

Lennon is now managing in Cyprus at Omonia Nicosia, while Griffiths is at League One side Falkirk. And it is undeniable though that both made a lot of contributions to Celtic through the course of their careers and we can only wish them the best of luck moving forward.
