James Tavernier makes massive claim about Celtic win at Ibrox

Both Celtic and the Rangers knew what was at stake when the two sides met at Ibrox earlier this month. A win for Ange Postecoglou’s side would send them six points clear at the top. On the other hand, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side had the chance to get level with their Glasgow rivals. A draw would have suited the Hoops more.

Ultimately though, it was Celtic who came out on top, getting a 2-1 win in the Rangers’ backyard. And even more impressively, Postecoglou’s side had to come from behind, having gone down a goal early on in the game.

Aaron Ramsey found the back of the net for the Rangers in the third minute but Celtic would quickly equalise through Tom Rogic. And then, Cameron Carter-Vickers would go on to score the all important winner just before half-time.

Van Bronckhorst’s side made a great start to the game but did not create much after their goal. Joe Hart was probably tested once throughout the match. Yet, James Tavernier believes that the Rangers deserved a lot more than they got on the day.

As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Tavernier told Sky Sports:

"“The first game where we lost away it wasn’t the performance that we wanted. So them taking 3 points in that game, we didn’t play good enough.“Obviously with the game at home we should’ve come out with a lot more out of the game. It’s night and day to the performance that we put in in the away leg to the performance that we put in at home.”"

Now, it was a better performance from the Rangers than the one that they put in at Parkhead earlier in the year, when Celtic played them off the park in the first half and the game ended 3-0.

But that does not mean that they were great at Ibrox either and not many would claim that the better team lost on the day.

In fact, Celtic have been better than the Rangers all three times that the Scottish giants have met this season till now, even though the Ibrox side might have won the first Glasgow Derby of the campaign back in August of last year.
