Kyogo Furuhashi made his first appearance for Celtic this year, when he came on as a substitute against St Johnstone. He had picked up a long-term injury against the same team, on Boxing Day of last year. Football is a funny game. It is safe to say that the fans must have been relieved to see the Japanese superstar back in action, especially with Giorgos Giakoumakis picking up an injury in the first half.

In the first half of the season, Kyogo had been arguably Celtic’s best player and thus, him getting injured could have been a huge blow for the club.

The team deserve a lot of credit for how well they did in the absence of Kyogo. Now, he is back though and hopefully, he will be able to pick up right where he left off. The last time the Japanese forward played the full 90 minutes, he scored a brace against Hibernian to hand Celtic the Scottish League Cup.

It was not a surprise when Celtic Park erupted in applause as Kyogo came on as a substitute. And he sent a beautiful message to the fans on Twitter after the game:

Kyogo has been quite some player for Celtic this season and yet, it feels like we have never been able to see him at his best for a continuous length of time. The Japanese star has had to deal with a couple of significant injury problems already.

Even then, he has made an impact. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Kyogo has scored 16 goals and provided 5 assists in 27 appearances for Celtic across all competitions.

He has a brilliant eye for goal, his movement is off the charts and he is someone who rises up to the occasion as well.
