Since the turn of the year, Giorgos Giakoumakis has arguably been Celtic’s best player. The turnaround that the Greek striker has made over the past few months is truly remarkable. In the absence of Kyogo, he has led the line for the Hoops and done so brilliantly, so much so, that he is one of the most important players in Ange Postecoglou’s side right now.

Thus, Celtic were handed a major worry against St Johnstone despite their 7-0 win on the day, with Giakoumakis being forced off the pitch in the first half itself.

He had carried on with his impressive form by scoring, but had to be substituted off just a few minutes afterwards, leaving the Celtic fans sweating. This is not what they would have wanted, with some of the most important matches of the season coming up, including the Scottish Cup semi-final against the Rangers next weekend.

Postecoglou has delivered a mixed update on Giakoumakis’ injury after the game. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, the manager told BBC Radio Scotland:

"“I’m not really sure at the moment. He didn’t think it was too bad but he did feel something, so obviously it’s always a concern when players have that.“He’s had an enormous load over the last few weeks carrying that frontline so unfortunate for him and we’ll wait and see. I’m hoping he’ll still be available for us in the run-in.”"

It is safe to say that the situation is far from ideal. It was the only blot, in what was otherwise an incredible day for Celtic.

They put in a statement of intent, with a 7-0 win over St Johnstone, extending the gap at the top to 9 points. While the Rangers do have a game in hand, the pressure will be on them to get all three points from it. The goal difference is something that they have to keep an eye on as well, with Celtic enjoying a significant advantage at the moment.

One can only hope that Giakoumakis did not pick up a serious injury and that he is back on the pitch as soon as possible.
