Barry Ferguson delivers stunning Celtic admission

Celtic’s 2-1 win over the Rangers was a huge result to say the least. Coming into the game, both sides would have been very aware of its importance. A loss for the Hoops would have brought the two Glasgow giants level on points and opened up the title race completely. On the other hand, a draw would have meant that the points gap remained at three. And a win would have put Ange Postecoglou’s side firmly in the driver’s seat, which is what happened.

With just six more league games to go, Celtic have a six point advantage in the title race. Thus, they have fingertips on the Premiership title even though there is a lot more work to be done.

One of the most impressive aspects of their win against the Rangers was how impressive Celtic looked at the back. And Barry Ferguson appears to have recognised that as well.

The former Rangers star wrote in his column in the Daily Record:

"How many times did a green and white jersey climb to head balls clear? I lost count.You have to admit they were exceptional in the way they coped in the air as their penalty box was swamped for long spells in that second half.That was one area where you have said before the game that Ange Postecoglou’s side were most vulnerable.Credit where credit’s due, they were excellent in defending their own box and their desire not to concede was immense."

Ferguson even admitted that the Rangers were not good enough on the day:

"Van Bronckhorst will also know Rangers were good on the day, but just not good enough."

Celtic’s defence shined against the Rangers at Ibrox

It was a bit of a nervy start from Celtic but once things clicked into place, they looked like the better team on the day and deserved the win.

Carl Starfelt, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Greg Taylor, all put in excellent performances on the day. And the club deserve immense credit for the improvement that they have undergone at the back since the arrival of Postecoglou as manager.

Not too long ago, defending aerial balls was the biggest weakness that Celtic had. But now, it almost is starting to look like a strength for them. That is an incredible turnaround to say the least. Let’s just hope that they can keep putting in performances of this quality moving forward.
