Roy Keane’s sensational Celtic prediction goes viral

Coming into the 2021/22 season, a lot of people had written off Celtic’s chances of winning back the Premiership title. The Hoops had finished the previous campaign 25 points behind the Rangers in the league and failed to impress in every other competition that they participated in. On top of that, the club were set to undergo a massive overhaul both on and off the pitch over the summer.

As a result, we saw Ange Postecoglou arrive as the manager, after an attempt to bring in Eddie Howe had failed. Twelve new players were brought in as well, while the likes of Scott Brown, Odsonne Edouard, Kristoffer Ajer, Ryan Christie, Olivier Ntcham and others left.

Thus, it was hard to find people who believed that Celtic could challenge the Rangers for the Premiership title. Roy Keane was one though.

As reported by the Irish Mirror, when asked on Sky Sports if he had any words of congratulations for Rangers after they had secured the title last year, Keane had said:

"“For Rangers? No. Listen, it’s obviously been a tough year for Celtic, but they’ll bounce back next year like all great clubs do.”"

Back then, most people would have laughed off Keane’s prediction as that of a former Celtic player hoping that the Hoops would bounce back. A year on, and the Manchester United legend has been proven correct.

Celtic have already lifted the Scottish League Cup. And they appear to be closing in on the Premiership title. Their win against the Rangers on Sunday means that they now have a six point lead in the league with just six more games left to be played.

Thus, one has to consider Celtic as the favourites for the Premiership as things stand, although there is still quite some distance left to go in the title race, especially with a Glasgow Derby left to be played. The Hoops must remain focused on the task at hand.
