Kenny Miller’s surprise Rangers admission after Celtic win

Kenny Miller joined the long list of disappointed Rangers fans after their 1-2 defeat at Ibrox against Celtic on Sunday. They have been left six points behind Ange Postecoglou’s side, with just six league games left to be played, with one of them being a Glasgow Derby at Parkhead. Like many others he is caught between a mood of despair and yet clinging to some faint hope.

Thus, from here on, one has to consider Celtic as the heavy favourites to go on and clinch the Premiership title, thereby securing a spot in next season’s Champions League main stage as well.

And while the Rangers are still in the UEFA Europa League, the Scottish Cup does represent their most realistic chance of silverware this season, as they are set to come up against Celtic in the semi-finals at Hampden Park later this month.

Miller’s focus is more on the Scottish Cup semi final as well and admits that it could be the Rangers’ only remaining hope for a trophy this season. While speaking on talkSPORT and as reported by the Daily Record, he said about the upcoming Glasgow Derby at Hampden Park:

"“It’s so big for so many reasons. You’ve got Ange who’s done phenomenal since he’s come in, he’s been a breath of fresh air for Scottish football as well.“You’ve got his Celtic team going for a potential treble, and you’ve got Rangers looking to get the only bit of silverware that’s realistic for them this year.“They’ve got the opportunity to stop that treble. In two weeks’ time, it’s a monumental game.”"

He is not completely ruling out the Rangers’ chances in the Premiership either though as Miller was keen to point out there was a lot still to do for Celtic in the remaining 6 league games if they are to get over the finish line:

"“As much as we’re saying it’s going to be a long way back, the hardest thing to do when you’re going for the league is to get it over the line.“It’s a tough thing to do because the pressure is on.“Also the opposition think ‘we don’t want them to win it against us.’“You never know, so it’s important Rangers get back to where they were, rest up, recover and get ready to go again.”"

While there is some hope for Miller and his former side, Ange Postecoglou and this whole Celtic squad seem to be focussed and ready to get the job done.

Coming to the matter of the Scottish Cup semi-final, Celtic have the chance to not only keep their treble hopes alive but a win for them could also end the Rangers’ hopes for a trophy this season. Hopefully, with close to a full squad to select from and with Kyogo Furuhashi back in the mix, the Hoops can finish this season strong.
