Celtic injury update on Matt O’Riley after Glasgow Derby

Matt O’Riley must have been hoping to play a much bigger part in Celtic’s win against the Rangers at Ibrox, than he ended up doing. The former MK Dons star was brought on as a substitute in the second half, before being brought off, as he suffered  a knock during the game. Thus, it is safe to say that a lot of fans will be worried about the situation of the midfielder.

He did not start the game in the first place and a lot of eyebrows were raised on the inclusion of Tom Rogic in the starting XI. The Australian repaid Ange Postecoglou’s faith though, by scoring the equaliser and putting in a brilliant overall display against the Rangers.

O’Riley would be brought on in the second half, only to pick up a knock and be brought off again. Now, Ange Postecoglou has provided an update on the injury situation and it sounds fairly positive.

As reported by 67 Hail Hail, the manager told Celtic TV about O’Riley:

"“Matty got a bit of a decent knock. He probably could’ve soldiered on but with the game being as it is and we’ve got a bench now that can make a difference, we thought we would take him off and just protect him.”"

It is safe to say that O’Riley has established himself as an important part of this Celtic team since arriving in January from MK Dons.

He has done better than most fans would have expected, considering he was playing in League One before this and at the moment, he is competing with Rogic for a first-team spot.

Thus, it is good to see that this does not look like a serious injury for O’Riley and hopefully, he will be back on the pitch as soon as possible.

Celtic currently sit 6 points ahead of the Rangers in the Premiership table with 6 more league games left to be played. And it is safe to say that they are pretty much in the driver’s seat right now, when it comes to the title race.
