Steven Gerrard makes unexpected Celtic admission

The transformation that Celtic have undergone since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as manager is truly remarkable. This was a side that had finished the previous season 25 points behind the Rangers in the Premiership and underwhelmed in every other competition as well. This time around, they have already won the Scottish League Cup, are in the Scottish Cup semi-finals and are leading the title race by three points.

What makes the turnaround even more brilliant is the squad overhaul that took place at Parkhead in the summer. Key players like Kristoffer Ajer, Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie left, and twelve new faces arrived.

Things have changed at Ibrox as well though, with Steven Gerrard having departed in the middle of the season, and Giovanni van Bronckhorst their manager now. They have impressed in Europe but their league form has not been consistent. They will have the chance to get back on level terms this weekend though.

Heading into the Glasgow Derby, Gerrard has made an unexpected admission about Postecoglou’s Celtic. As reported by Football Scotland, the current Aston Villa manager said:

"“Obviously Celtic got the better recently. I think it’s a real 50/50 game, two really good teams.“(Rangers are) Obviously in a good place having qualified and knocked Dortmund and Red Star out and Celtic have obviously been very consistent for some time now and are coached extremely well.”"

Postecoglou appears to have impressed Gerrard as well, with how well he has done with this Celtic side.

The Hoops must be confident of their chances going into the Glasgow Derby. The last time these two teams met, Celtic were dominant and got a comfortable 3-0 win at Parkhead.

But, at the same time, their record against the Rangers and particularly at Ibrox, has not been great in recent years. Their last win at the stadium came back in 2019.

One can only hope that they can bring an end to that run this time around. A win would send them six points clear, while a draw would keep the gap at three. Celtic need to avoid a defeat though, as that would bring them level on points.
