Celtic manager reacts to Rangers pulling out of Sydney Super Cup

When news first broke out of Celtic and the Rangers taking part in a friendly away in Australia later this year, it is safe to say that fans from both clubs were not pleased. The supporters of the Ibrox side seemed to be much unhappier of the two though, as it looked like they were set to play second fiddle to the Hoops in a tournament being labelled as the Ange Homecoming Tour by the media.

On top of that, there were also suggestions that the Rangers were set to receive half the participation fee of what Celtic were getting, for their involvement in the Sydney Super Cup.

And after extensive protests from their fans, the Rangers announced yesterday that they had decided to pull out of the Sydney Super Cup.

A lot of Celtic fans have been wondering what Ange Postecoglou thinks about the entire situation. And as reported by FTBL, when asked about whether it was a disappointment, the manager said:

"“Disappointment? Disappointment for me is about things I can control. I’m not going to get disappointed over things that I have got nothing to do with.”"

It goes without saying that this game was going to be a big showcase event for Postecoglou, back in Australia as the manager of Celtic. Now, it is safe to say that a lot of things are up in the air about the Sydney Super Cup.

One would hope though that it will go forward, as it is a lucrative deal for Celtic and a great opportunity to grow their worldwide fanbase. At the same time, it fits in perfectly with the gap in the club footballing calendar later this year as a result of the World Cup in Qatar.

There have been rumours though that the organisers will look to bring in a replacement team to fill in for the Rangers and there are no plans to scrap the Sydney Super Cup at the moment.
