Former Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers makes surprise Ibrox claim

Former Celtic manager, Brendan Rodgers, has made some interesting comments about Ibrox as a stadium and also about the recent controversy about the allocation of tickets to the away fans, while speaking ahead of Sunday’s crunch match between the two Glasgow giants. It is another view from the Northern Irishman that might not be extremely popular amongst the fans.

Rodgers, of course, had a pretty good record in the Glasgow Derby, winning 10 of 14 played. Notably though, the Hoops have struggled to get a result in the away games against the Rangers in recent times and haven’t won at Ibrox since September 2019.

They’ll surely be looking to bring an end to that run on Sunday, in what is shaping up to be the most important Glasgow Derby in a long, long time.

While speaking to Sky Sports, Rodgers described Ibrox as a great place to play in, as the current Leicester City manager said:

"“But Ibrox is a great place to go and play with the atmosphere.”"

There will be only 700 Celtic fans at Ibrox this weekend, but that’s more than at either of the two previous Glasgow Derbies this season, where no away fans were allowed to attend. Rodgers gave his take on the matter as well:

"“To feel a game as Celtic manager against Rangers is such a special occasion. I virtually remember all the games as Celtic manager against Rangers and they’re such tense games.“I just hope that, going forward, the two teams can get the allocation back because that’s what truly makes it: the spectacle around the world. They’re still great games – I watched the last game which Celtic won 3-0 and they played fantastically well at Celtic Park and the atmosphere was amazing.“But I think that extra bit comes when you have that 7,000, 8,000 supporters that travel as well because that really brings the atmosphere up a little bit more as well. Hopefully they can get back to those numbers again, but in the meantime – home or away – they’re incredible games to be involved in and if you can win, they’re extra special.”"

Rodgers has also been impressed with what he has seen so far from Celtic this season. They are 3 points ahead before the game at Ibrox and have a far superior goal difference. So, no matter the result, the Hoops will remain top of the Premiership when the final whistle is blown at Ibrox this weekend.

Rodgers is still a controversial figure with many Celtic fans, because of his abrupt Celtic departure to join Leicester City.

While coming to the matter of the Glasgow Derby at Ibrox, a win or even a draw, would be a huge result for this Celtic team and their hopes of lifting the Premiership title.
