Celtic are a club always on the lookout for the next big thing. More often than not, it is so that they can sign the player for a relatively small transfer fee and let him leave for a much bigger one just a few years later, when he has proven himself at Parkhead. When this strategy works, it looks brilliant on paper. The recent decision to sign Jeremie Frimpong comes to mind immediately.

Frimpong arrived as a teenager from Manchester City in the summer of 2019 and has already departed Celtic to join Bayer Leverkusen, where he has established himself as one of the most exciting youngsters in the Bundesliga.

Celtic will surely be looking to repeat the trick and one player who appears to have caught their eye is Bayern Munich’s Christopher Scott. His current deal with the Bundesliga champions runs out in the summer but they do have the option to extend it.

It looks like Bayern Munich are set to trigger that one-year option but there is some good news for Celtic at the same time. As reported by the Daily Record, a source close to the negotiations said:

"“Bayern Munich has the option of extending Christopher’s contract by one more year and this is one-sided on the club’s part.“Bayern Munich won’t let him go for free because he’s one of the biggest talents in Germany and it would cost around €300,000 to €400,000 for him.”"

Celtic could sign next Kai Havertz for transfer fee around £250,000

Scott has been one of the most highly-rated talents in Germany for a while now. And a fee around €300,000 (£250,000) to €400,000 (£340,000), does not seem a lot for one of the country’s biggest talents.

Bundesliga’s official website compared him to Kai Havertz and having come through the Bayer Leverkusen youth system, it is not hard to see why that comparison would be made.

Scott has already made a couple of senior appearances for the Bayern Munich senior team but the feeling is that he wants to play regularly and is looking to leave the club in the summer. Other than Celtic, teams from the Bundesliga and Brentford are also being linked with the 19-year-old German youth international.
