Ghana international reveals he rejected Celtic move

Celtic remain one of the most attractive clubs to play for in world football despite the fact that often, they cannot compete financially with clubs from the big five European leagues. Of course, very few players get the chance to represent the Hoops and most of them have had nothing but great things to say about their time at Parkhead.

But at the same time, there are quite a few players, who end up turning down the chance to move to Celtic. For some, it turns out to be right decision for their career, for some others, not quite so much.

One player, who appears to have rejected the chance to move to Celtic, is Patrick Twumasi. He had impressed against the Hoops while representing FC Astana and Brendan Rodgers had tried to bring him to Parkhead. But he decided to move to Alaves instead.

As reported by the Daily Record, he told ONE:

"“I played twice against Celtic for Astana in the Champions League. The Celtic manager, Brendan Rodgers, called me up personally which was a great honour.“He told me, ‘Patrick, come to Celtic and you will have a great career. I love the way you play and you would be a great success at the club.’“But my family and agent recommended I go to Spain instead. They said that even though Alaves were a far smaller club, the exposure given to Spanish football was much more than in Scotland.”"

Twumasi also admitted that he rejected turning down the chance to play for the Glasgow giants:

"“Looking back, I completely regret not taking up the offer from Celtic. I sent coach Rodgers a message to apologise and I admitted to him I made the wrong decision.”"

He currently plays for Israeli side, Maccabi Netanya. And it is safe to say that things have not gone for Twumasi as he would have expected when turning down a move to Celtic to join Alaves in La Liga.

He had a tough time there and after a tough spell in the second division in Germany as well, he finds himself playing his football in Israel.

One can only wonder how things would have gone for him if he had taken the chance to join Celtic. It certainly might have been very different to how they have worked out for the Ghana international.

Now, 27 years of age, Twumasi appears to be trying to resurrect his career after underwhelming stints in Germany and Spain.
