Celtic made five additions to their squad in the January transfer window. Three of them, Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Matt O’Riley have already played a significant part in the first-team since arriving. Yosuke Ideguchi has not been able to do that as he has had his fair share of injury problems and the competition for places in midfield is very high as well. Very interesting is the situation of Johnny Kenny.

Kenny is still just 18 years of age but already has plenty of senior level experience under his belt, having made a number of appearances for Sligo Rovers before completing a move to Celtic this winter.

He did arrive already carrying an injury though. And although he had recovered from it since then, he handed Celtic another worry recently as he had to be stretchered off the pitch while representing the Republic of Ireland under-19 side just a few days back against their English counterparts.

Thus, many expected him to miss significant action. But shockingly, Kenny has started the game against Portugal under-19 today.

Celtic January signing Kenny returns to pitch just days after being stretchered off

This is an incredible turn of events for sure. Not many would have expected Kenny to be back on the pitch just days after there had been fears that he had suffered a serious injury. And not only is he playing, but he has managed to find the back of the net against the Portugal under-19 side as well.

This is great news for sure and now, we can only hope that he can perform well moving forward without suffering any more injury setbacks.

Kenny has tremendous potential without any doubt but at this stage of his career, it is hard to imagine him getting a lot of minutes at the senior level for Celtic.
