As Celtic get on with preparing for critical upcoming matches, the problems over at the Rangers surrounding the Sydney Super Cup appear to have increased even more. The anger from their fans about playing a Glasgow Derby friendly seems to be showing no signs of fading away amid a number of statements and responses.
Their fans do not seem keen for the club to be a part of what is being called by many as the Ange Homecoming Tour and rumours have suggested that they would be receiving a much smaller fee than Celtic, for their participation.
Over the last couple of days, following protests, we’ve also seen statements being released by their supporters group, Club 1872, and the Rangers board.
As reported by the Daily Record, Club1872 released a statement questioning the board. On the other hand, the club have promised to address the disruptors at the end of the season.
Dave King enters the saga amid turmoil at Rangers over Celtic friendly
Dave King has entered the ongoing saga by offering to cover any losses that the Rangers might suffer as a result of withdrawing from the Sydney Super Cup and the game against Celtic in particular. It is not clear if King has made any demands in exchange for the offer.
This is in direct contrast with the mood around Celtic at the moment. While the fans of the Hoops were not particularly happy with the news of the friendly being arranged in Australia either, it has not become something around which everything is revolving at Parkhead right now.
It does look like the Hoops have their eyes firmly on the task at hand, the biggest of which must be to get their hands on the Premiership title once again. Celtic currently hold a 3 point advantage over the Rangers with seven games left in the league.
