The names of Celtic and Liverpool have been linked with each other much more often in recent times than one would expect. Many fans will remember the transfer saga involving Ben Davies. The Hoops had looked set to sign him on a pre-contract before Jurgen Klopp’s side swooped in with a late move and took him to Anfield. Then, there have been the recent rumours surrounding Ben Doak as well.

Doak has already made a couple of appearances for the club despite being just 16 years of age and has tremendous potential. But it does not look like the fans will get to see a lot of him in a Celtic jersey as suggestions have been that he will join Liverpool in the summer.

That does not appear to be the end of it though as it now looks like Liverpool are closing in on signing one of Celtic’s transfer targets as well.

As reported by Independent.ie, Trent Kone-Doherty, who has previously spent time training with Celtic, is now looking set to join Liverpool from Derry.

Liverpool look set to beat Celtic to the signature of Kone-Doherty

It goes without saying that the situation is far from ideal for Celtic. Not only do they look set to lose one of their most promising youngsters in years to Liverpool but at the same time, Klopp’s side look set to win the race for the signature of a player that the Hoops appeared to have in their sights as well.

All Celtic can do right now is move on though and shift their focus towards other targets in the future.

The club must certainly be doing something right that a team like Liverpool, which might very well be the best in Europe right now, are looking to sign not only their players but also those they are targeting.
