Celtic were handed a huge blow when Kyogo Furuhashi picked up a long-term injury in their last game before the winter break, in December. Initially, it had been thought that it was not a big problem and he would be back in a few weeks. It has been almost three months since then though, and the Japanese star is yet to even return to full training. And as we head towards the most important part of the season, the Hoops could certainly do with him being back.

In some great news for the club, David Turnbull is available for their game against Ross County. And it has always been thought that Kyogo had a similar injury to the Scottish midfielder. He did pick it up a week later though.

Thus, it does feel like Kyogo’s return might not be far away and there have been some suggestions that he could even be back in time to feature against the Rangers in the upcoming Glasgow Derby at Ibrox.

Ange Postecoglou has not been clear about any timeline but his latest update on Kyogo is much more promising than previous ones. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, the manager said during a media conference on Celtic’s YouTube channel:

"“Yeah, not sure. We will just wait and see. I said a while back, if you go by timelines Dave got injured before Kyogo so you can read into that what you like.“He is working through his rehab and I’m sure he will be available soon.”"

Kyogo returning would be a tremendous boost for Celtic. He was arguably the club’s best player, and also the best in Scotland, before going down with injury in December.

It remains to be seen what ‘soon’ ends up meaning but it must be said that Kyogo has to be given time to get back into his groove, rather than being put straight back into the starting XI and expecting him to perform.

Thankfully for Celtic, Giorgos Giakoumakis has started to show his quality in front of goal in recent months and as a result, the club have been able to cope with the absence of Kyogo quite well.
