Journalist reveals why Ben Doak is set to leave Celtic for Liverpool

Ben Doak has been a topic of discussion amongst Celtic fans recently, as it looks like the youngster is set to leave the club in order to join Liverpool. The 16-year-old had already managed to break into the first-team picture and make a couple of appearances, including one in the recent 3-0 win over the Rangers. But unfortunately, it looks like his long-term future lies away from Parkhead.

Fans would have been hoping to see a lot more of Doak in a Celtic jersey but it appears that that is not going to happen.

One has to question whether he will get enough first-team opportunities at Liverpool, who arguably have the best team in the world right now. On the other hand, he had already featured for the senior team at Celtic.

But Kieran Devlin appears to be of the belief that Liverpool’s pitch was too strong to match for Celtic. He tweeted out:

"“There will be inquests after yet another academy prospect leaves so soon, but I do think in this specific case Liverpool’s pitch was too strong to match even the most generous first-team pathway. Not that that lessens the pain of losing such a huge talent”"

Doak looks set to leave Celtic and join Liverpool

It is safe to say that this is a blow for Celtic. There is no question about Doak’s talent and potential. You simply don’t feature for the first-team at 16 years of age, if there is nothing special about you.

If he developed at the rate that he was expected to, Doak could have been a regular member of the first-team at Celtic for years to come.

While a deal has not been announced yet, it does feel like it will end up happening eventually. And unfortunately for Celtic, this is not the first time that they look set to lose one of their most promising youngsters before he even makes a mark on the first-team picture. The likes of Bayern Munich, Manchester City and many others have swooped in in the past.

This is something that the club need to find a way to prevent. Not only is bringing through youngsters a big part of Celtic’s identity but it is also something that, if done right, can help them compete with teams from the big five European leagues.
