Celtic have added a lot of players to their squad in recent times and this is a very different looking team to the one that had lost the Premiership title by 25 points to the Rangers last season. And that has been for the best, as the performances and results have improved a lot, to the point where they have already won the Scottish League Cup and are challenging for the Premiership title.
Thus, it is safe to say that Celtic must be happy with how things have gone till now. But, they are far from perfect.
The club must continue to improve their squad moving forward and one thing that they might need to do is sign another goalkeeper. Joe Hart has done a tremendous job since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur but he is no longer in his prime. On the other hand, Vasilis Barkas looks set to leave in the summer while there are question marks over Scott Bain.
Chris Sutton recently claimed that the club should go out and sign Benjamin Siegrist from Dundee United. As reported by Glasgow Times, the former Celtic star told Premier Sports:
"“If I’m Celtic I go out and buy him at the end of the season as back up.“I really like him. He’s had a number of seasons at Dundee United now.“I think he is a brilliant goalkeeper.”"
Sutton tells Celtic to go for Siegrist
Siegrist has without doubt been a great performer for Dundee United for a long time and been one of the standout goalkeepers in the Premiership.
While he might not have covered himself in glory with his performance against Celtic in the recent game, there is no question about his talent or ability.
If Celtic are able to sign him, he has the potential to be a fantastic back up option to Hart. But, it remains to be seen whether the Hoops end up making a move or not, in the near future. It must be pointed out that the goalkeeper’s current deal with Dundee United is believed to run out in the summer.
