It looks like another Celtic star of the future is preparing his exit before he can even come close to reaching those heights. It’s another in a worrying trend for the Hoops, who have seen other youngsters leave for clubs such as Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Leeds United and others in the past, before even making a mark at Parkhead. And it is safe to say that they will need to find a way to stop it from happening this regularly, as soon as possible.
As reported by The Athletic, Liverpool are closing in on a deal to sign exciting Celtic youngster, Ben Doak.
Celtic fans will recall the 16-year-old youngster coming on as a substitute in a couple of league matches recently, notably in the closing stages of the 3-0 win over the Rangers.
Doak is yet to sign a professional contract with Celtic. A decision around his future has been up in the air for a while but now, it looks like he is on his way to Anfield.
Celtic youngster Doak headed for Liverpool
Doak is known to be a huge Celtic fan so any move away would be a tough one to make. But even then, the opportunity to play for Liverpool and under the management of Jurgen Klopp appears to have proven too much to turn down for the teenager.
And yet you have to wonder, how much time will Doak actually spend with Klopp and the Liverpool first-team at this stage? Are there enough opportunities to break into the playing XI, considering how strong they are at the moment? He will have done incredibly well if he is able to.
One cannot help but feel that the greater chance of real match experience under the management of Ange Postecoglou at Celtic would offer more development for Doak in the short term.
