Neil Lennon wants former Celtic player as assistant in Cyprus

Neil Lennon’s run as Celtic manager came to the worst end possible as he had to step away from his role in the middle of the campaign, after it had become clear that the club had no chance of mounting a comeback in the title race and had lost out on their chance to complete a historic 10IAR. Thus, despite all the trophies that he might have won during his time at Parkhead, he will most probably always be remembered for the disappointing 2020/21 season.

Since his Celtic exit, Lennon had made no secret of the fact though that he would like to return to management. And he has finally done that with AC Omonia Nicosia of the Cypriot First Division.

It is safe to say that it is not the club that most fans would have expected to see Lennon at, but it might be a great opportunity for the Northern Irishman to get his managerial career back on track.

And it looks like he has a former Celtic player in his sights, to be his assistant manager in Cyprus.

As reported by The Scottish Sun, Mark Fotheringham has emerged as Lennon’s first choice to be his No 2 at AC Omonia Nicosia and the former Celtic player has been in talks with the Cypriot club over the last 48 hours.

It remains to be seen how things turn out for Lennon away in Cyprus. He does have plenty of experience under his belt to have a decent time there.

But you never know in football and it is very possible that this could be a bad move on the part of the former Celtic manager. Only time shall tell and we can only wish him the best of luck.
